Sports Physiotherapy

As a Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist, and former Exercise Scientist, working with many athletes at amateur, semi-elite and elite levels, we understand the differences required to train, perform and return to sport after injury.  While all physiotherapists receive extensive training in anatomy, physiology and musculoskeletal injuries, Sports Physiotherapists undergo additional training for sports-specific injuries and the unique demands placed on athletes.

You can feel confident in knowing that we work closely with many leading Sports Doctors and other Health Professionals, to ensure that you have a team to support you where required. We will also communicate with your coach, team manager or medical team where appropriate.

How a Sports Physiotherapist can help you:

  1. Understanding the Demands of Sport: Sports physiotherapists understand the specific demands placed on athletes during training and competition. They are familiar with the biomechanics of different sports and can identify any imbalances or weaknesses in an athlete’s body that may be contributing to an injury.
  2. Specialised Assessment and Treatment: Sports physiotherapists are trained in specialised assessment techniques to diagnose and treat sports-specific injuries. They are familiar with the latest evidence-based treatment techniques and can develop a customised treatment plan to help an athlete recover from an injury and return to their sport as quickly and safely as possible.

  1. Injury Prevention: Some injuries can be prevented, and some unfortunately can not. We work with individual athletes and teams to take measures to reduce the amount of injury during a season where possible. This may look like individual screening, implementing warm-up and prevention programs throughout the season, educating on load management throughout different competition and training periods, providing strength and conditioning programs, and addressing concerns early.
  2. Rehabilitation and Return to Sport

We understand the detrimental impact that an injury can have on your season, team, and even career, which is why we want to ensure that we can minimise the amount of time missed from sport, and get you back to competing as soon as possible, with the best chance of preventing re-injury again in the future.

Our rehabilitation programs for athletes are more than just rehab for the site of injury. We provide global strength and conditioning programs that will maintain your aerobic, anaerobic, power, strength and skills training as much as possible.

Our overall approach to rehabilitation is holistic, including education around nutrition, wellbeing and psychology, referring to our network of specialists where indicated.

We provide evidence-based rehab protocols that are injury and sport specific, so that you are recovering in a way that is specific to the demands of your sport.

Before returning to sport, you will be required to pass a series of evidence-based tests that are sport and injury specific, to ensure you are safe to perform at your highest level. You will also be provided with a maintenance program that is specific to you, to prevent reinjury.

  1. Performance Enhancement: Sports Physiotherapists can also help athletes enhance their performance by identifying areas where they can improve their strength, flexibility and technique. They can provide guidance on proper warm-up and cool-down techniques and help athletes develop an exercise program to improve their overall fitness and performance.
